Chris Tucker Live was Worth the Wait

On Friday, Chris Tucker released his first ever comedy special, “Chris Tucker Live,” on Netflix. The special is overflowing with more than an hour of jokes that from start to finish are guaranteed to have audiences laughing until their faces hurt. Tucker talks tax woes, his relationship with the late, great Michael Jackson, family, and the ups and downs of fame in this hilarious comedy special. He also does some killer impersonations of the King of Pop, the late Maya Angelou, Ice Cube, and Bill Clinton.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Tucker, who is widely known for his role in the now classic movie “Friday” with Ice Cube as well as the box office smash “Rush Hour” movie series with Jackie Chan, explained why he chose this moment to give the world a comedy special.

“It just came together. I just said, ‘I want to do this.’ A lot of people don’t know I’m a comedian. I wanted to show them,” Tucker said.

The special begins with candid photos from Tucker’s childhood and adolescence, which are displayed during the opening credits. This theme of insight into Tucker’s personal life remains consistent throughout the special.

“I wanted people to see the real me instead of the characters. This is all me, my silliness and my seriousness,” Tucker told the Los Angeles Times. “All my relationships, friendships, family, all the stuff I’ve been through. I learned how to do this by watching the greats — Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy. Richard Pryor always talked about his real life and struggles. That’s what makes a stand-up movie special.”
